is a white Greek wine grape indigenous to the island of Santorini. Assyrtiko is widely planted in the arid volcanic-ash-rich soil of Santorini and other Aegean islands, such as Paros. It is also found on other scattered regions of Greece such as Chalkidiki. Assyrtiko is also being grown in Clare Valley, South Australia, and at the Abbey of New Clairvaux in Northern California since 2011.
the most famous of which are Crete, Rhodes, Samos and Santorini – lie in the Aegean Sea between Greece and Turkey. The islands have a long and influential winemaking history spanning thousands of years, but in the modern day are most famous for Santorini's dry, minerally, white wines made from Assyrtico-based white wines made from Assyrtico.
Avantis was founded in 1994 by the manufacturer Apostolos Mountrichas. It is located 65 km north of Athens, just 45 minutes from the northern suburbs of Attica, just 5 minutes from the center of Chalkida.
