Alpha Estate was founded in 1997 by the experienced viticulturist Makis Mavridis and chemist-oenologist Angelos Iatridis, who, after years of experience in various locations of Greece and abroad, chose the Amyndeon region to create his own wine.

Macedonia produces wines from an area composed of about 22,400 acres of vineyards. Also, 30,000 acres of vineyards are entirely dedicated to table grapes. Red wine dominates macedonian wine production with a staggering 80% and, within the European Union, "Macedonia" has protected geographical indication (PGI) for wines produced in the Greek wine region of Macedonia.
