Each of the different styles of wine d'Asti has its own wine-growing area defined but also overlapping in some places. The vineyards area for Asti DOCG wine covers an area of the hills in the south of Asti. It stretches over 50 communes in the provinces of Cuneo, Asti and Alessandria from Serralunga d'Alba in the west to Acqui Terme in the east. This production area is identical to that of the sweeter and less fortified “cousin” of Asti (Muscato d'Asti) with which it is often confused.
