Glera is a neutral kind of grape that retains its acidity very well. The concentration of aromas is not a major factor in the production of simple sparkling wines for which it is mainly intended, so production can be generous. Glera grapes develop their flavor without needing to be overripe. Most of the Glera variety is transformed into sparkling wine by the Charmat-Marinotti method which retains carbonation resulting from fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks, and the wine is then bottled and ready for consumption without secondary fermentation.
