Burgundy

Burgundy, the famous wine region of France, is divided into five major wine growing areas: Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Maconnais. Each of these sub-regions adds a distinct touch to the mosaic of Burgundian wines, depending on the soil types and grape varieties grown. The two predominant varieties of the region are: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Pinot Noir, grown mainly in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, gives the wines remarkable elegance and depth, with red fruit notes and delicate spicy aromas. Chardonnay, spread in the Côte de Beaune and Mâconnais, produces complex and exquisite white wines characterized by aromas of white fruit, nuts and have a well-balanced acidity.
